Refurbishment in historic Durham
13 May 2025

The historic city of Durham has recently undergone a significant hotel refurbishment, enhancing its hospitality offering with beautifully appointed guestrooms. Curtis Furniture was delighted to partner on this extensive project, providing bespoke bedroom furniture for 84 rooms in a centrally located hotel. What made this project particularly unique was its execution: completed in eight carefully orchestrated phases, allowing the hotel to remain open and operational throughout the entire transformation.
This phased approach demanded meticulous planning and seamless coordination from our team, ensuring minimal disruption to hotel guests while delivering high-quality furniture on schedule. Our commitment to flexibility and efficiency was key to the successful completion of this complex refurbishment.
Beyond the standard guestrooms, the project also included the prestigious Executive Lounge bedroom suite. This required a more tailored approach, culminating in the creation of a functional yet stylish space. A key feature of this suite is a bespoke boardroom table, perfect for meetings and collaborative work, alongside a large, decorative wall-mounted TV unit that seamlessly blends technology with elegant design.
Comfort was also paramount throughout the hotel's design, extending beyond the case goods. Curtis Furniture supplied a range of hotel bedroom seating, including armchairs and sofas, all upholstered in a luxurious and tactile boucle fabric. This added a layer of warmth and sophistication to each room, inviting guests to relax and unwind in style.
This project in central Durham exemplifies Curtis Furniture's commitment to providing bespoke, high-quality furniture solutions for the hospitality sector. Our ability to manage complex, multi-phase refurbishments while delivering stylish and durable pieces, tailored to the specific needs of each space, ensures a seamless and enhanced experience for both the hotel and its guests. We are proud to have played a part in transforming this Durham hotel, creating comfortable and inviting spaces for visitors to enjoy.
